We have just started a new study here at Johns Hopkins, which is an extension of the work we've beendoing since 1994 and which many NPSers have made possible by providing blood samples. There are two parts to the study, and NPSers are welcome to take part in either.

Part 1 involves travelling to Baltimore, a major tourist destination at all times of the year - (honest!!) for a full day of tests to determine the true range of symptoms associated with NPS. For example, what is the frequency of glaucoma or kidney disease? if you have one, are you any more likely to develop the other? What is the nature of the dental problems that affects NPSers? 20% of participants will have MRIs of their knees and elbows so that we can document the range of joint abnormalities.

NPSW will consider requests for support of some travel costs associated with participation in this study.

Part 2 of the study is for those who cannot make the trip to Baltimore, but would still like to help us learn more about NPS. These lucky participants get to fill out a series of questionnaires to gauge the rangeof NPS symptoms - especially the frequency of ADHD etc. If you are taking part in this part of the study, we would also like a blood sample for DNA analysis (if you haven't already given one to Dr. Sweeney). It is especially important that adult male NPSers take part in these studies.
